Research- After Effects Disappearing

This is my research into how to make a person disappear from the screen. For my music video i want to be able to make a person disappear whilst in shot. I looked into youtube to try and learn how to do it. I wanted to be able to learn the basics which i have done and now.


This was the first time  i had ever used after effects so this was completely foreign to me. Which meant that i had to start from scratch

The first stage is importing your filmed footage onto Adobe After Effects. You can do this by importing using the file tool at the top of the page.

Then from here you split the same footage into two. what i had to do was to capture the part where i wasn't in frame so that i captured the background on its own. This comes in handy at a later stage. Also it is very important that the top footage that you split is renamed to background. This just erases all the confusion you may met at a later stage.
                             

 From here i had to drag the background clip below the other clip and pull it towards the beginning as shown in the picture above.

 then i had to split the first clip to the point where i want to disappear

 then here i set a freeze frame to freeze to image

 after all that i now had to use a pen tool to create a yellow boarder line around my body

Now i had to find a plug in called CC Scatterize. Which lets me apply onto myself and it scatters all my body into little pieces which disappear in the air. This was exactly what i want to achieve.
when yo look at the image it shows the moment when i was adding in the scatterize plug in. I made it pick out my body and not the background. If it picked out the background it would scatterize the whole footage and not just me.

After setting the CC scatterize onto myself  i had to change the dials at the top. i had a play with them to see the effect more and work out how much scatter i wanted.

 Here i had to set the scatter button to increase the scatter pattern. The image on the left shows the pattern in which my body scattered. I was pleased with this. It also looked quite good in the process.

 Next thing was to set the duration of the disappear i only wanted to disappear for about a second this because my footage was not long enough so i could only do it for about a scone which i was happen with because i now know for next time to increase to time where i will only want the background to be in shot.  Also as you can see in the image on the right that even tho i have disappeared the frame in which i carved my body is still there. However it won't be visible in the final edit.

 This was how it looked when i disappeared. Its only a short clip but it shows how i disappear, i was fairly happy with the out the only downfall was that i disappear before i click my hand. This is something that i will have to pay attention to next time. I need to find the exact point where i want to disappear and make sure that it looks clean and professional.
